Minnesota United FC News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Saturday, October 17th, 2015) -- Minnesota United's incredible run of form came to an end on Saturday night, as the Loons fell 3-1 on the road to Indy Eleven. United scored a late goal, but couldn't complete the comeback against the potent Indy attack.
Indy came out strong in the first half, putting heavy pressure on Minnesota to prevent United from creating many attacking chances. The Eleven dominated possession and didn't allow Minnesota's defense to relax very much in the first 45 minutes. Despite several great defensive plays, United wasn't able to hold off Indy forever. Indy forward Dylan Mares received a quick pass in front of goal and caught the defense going the wrong way with a shot across the net to give his team the lead.
The second half saw the Eleven sit back a little more, focusing mainly on counterattacks. It took just over ten minutes for an opportunity on the counter to present itself and forward Brian Brown took full advantage. His teammate Don Smart played a cross, that was out of the reach of United goalkeeper Sammy Ndjock, that Brown placed in the back of the net.
United began to push up the field, trying to get back in the game. However, a powerful blast from Indy's Brad Ring into the top corner of the United goal sealed the victory for his team.
Though the score was not in its favor, United didn't give up on the game. A late corner played in by Kevin Venegas found fellow defender Brent Kallman who nodded home the ball to get his side on the scoreboard.
The Loons created several good attacks in the final minutes, but couldn't close the gap on the hosts, and saw their unbeaten run come to an end.
United returns home for two games before The Championship, the NASL's postseason tournament. The Loons begin the homestretch against the Atlanta Silverbacks on Saturday, October 24th at 7 p.m. The stands are filling up so get your tickets now to ensure you can cheer on United as it prepares to make a run for a title.
