Midnight Madness

The DeLaSalle High School women's basketball team is playing host to a 24-hour basketball fundraising event starting at 5 p.m. Oct. 12 and ending at 5 p.m. the next day. A good portion of the money collected from the event will be donated to the Red Cross for its efforts at the time in the 35W bridge collapse. Twenty-four one-hour basketball games will be held and the Minnesota Ripknees will take the court at 11 a.m. Oct. 13 with the members of the DeLaSalle student body and players from the Triple Double Basketball league.

Others included in the event are Trent Tucker and the rest of the 1982 Big Ten Champion Gopher basketball team. They square off against the Triple Double All Stars at noon Oct. 13. All are welcome to attend and contribute to the fund.

Search for a Superhero

This fall the Twin Cities will get its first look at Ripknee, the superhero mascot of the Minnesota Ripknees, and the team is looking for someone Marvel enough to play the role. We're looking for gymnasts, acrobats, athletes, plumbers, anyone, to contact us if you are interested in becoming Ripknee. An open tryout will be held to try to fill the position.

PBL Lottery and Draft

The first Premier Basketball League lottery and draft will take place at 1 p.m. Monday Oct. 1 via video stream and conference call, connecting teams and coaches from the league to PBL headquarters in Maryland.

Each team will get an even amount of Ping-Pong balls in the lottery with this being the inaugural season. The draft will consist of two rounds and, unlike the NBA, is serpentine. So, like many fantasy sport drafts, the team with the top pick in the first round will have the final pick in the second round.
