Minnesota Ripknees News Release

New Additions to the PBL

The Premier Basketball League announced last week that the Quad City Riverhawks and the Rock River Fury (Rockford, IL) will be joining the PBL for the 2007-2008 inaugural season. Both teams are owned by Tom McGinn, a Rock Falls, Illinois businessman. The Riverhawks are scheduled to play their home games in Wharton Field House in Moline, Illinois. The well-known arena has been hosting professional basketball for over 75 years. The Fury, a PBL expansion team, will play their home games at Rockford College's Seaver Arena. The addition of the Riverhawks should be exciting for Ripknees fans, because the two teams will be able to carry over their rivalry that began in the ABA. After compiling a 24-9 record last season, the Riverhawks lost to the Ripknees in the Central Division Championship.

Ripknees Performance Team

Tryouts for the 2007-2008 Ascending Star Dance Team were held on June 4 this summer. The team has merged with the Ripknees Dance Team to create an exciting new performance team for the Ripknees. This is the fourth year that Ascending Star has been together. They formerly performed for the Mid America Football League. The new squad is made up of 18 women and they have been practicing for the upcoming season at Bally's Total Fitness in St. Paul and Richfield. Sara Willcat, the director of the team, and Ramicah Witz, the team captain, have appointed Sara Atwood and Karen Christie as the team captains. The Ripknees Performance Team will no doubt be fun to watch this season.
