Minnesota Ripknees Join Premiere Basketball League
June 14, 2007 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Minnesota Ripknees News Release
The Minnesota Ripknees are joining the Premiere Basketball League. Never heard of it before? That's because it's a brand new league! The PBL will debut in 2007-2008 in at least 16 United States and Canadian markets. Unlike, the ABA, the PBL will take its teams to compete in overseas markets, while also bringing European and Asian teams to America to play.
The transition from the ABA to the PBL offers greater stability and assures fans will see high quality basketball. After careful review, Ripknees head coach Larry McKenzie, along with co-owners Jack and Billy Jurewicz thought the move was in the best interest of the franchise and the fans.
Don't worry everything else about your beloved Ripknees will pretty much stay the same, including their dynamic roster of talent. The Ripknees roster boasts all-star locals such as Jamel Staten, Johnnie Gilbert, and Mitch Ohnstad among others.
The PBL will still offer its fans professional basketball at an affordable price, giving families an interactive alternative to the NBA, movies, and expensive restaurants.
In their first season in the ABA, the Ripknees finished with a record of 24-9 and clinched ABA Central Division Championship. In their first season in the PBL, there are surely greater things to come.
