Southern Illinois Miners News Release

MARION, Ill. - For the first time in team history, the Southern Illinois Miners have scheduled a game in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The preseason exhibition game is scheduled for Saturday, May 9 at 7 p.m. at Capaha Field, home of the Southeast Missouri State baseball team.

"We want to reach out to our fans in Cape Girardeau who can't always make it to Marion to see a game and give them the first look at this year's team," Miners General Manager Tim Arseneau said.

Proceeds from the game will benefit Capaha Field and Cape Youth Baseball. The game will be against Southern Illinois' Frontier League rival Florence Freedom and will be the Miners first exhibition match of the season. A week later the team will be in Paducah's Brooks Stadium for a preseason game against Evansville.

The Miners will begin the 2009 season in Evansville on Friday, May 22. The home opener is scheduled for Friday, May 29 at 7:05 p.m.
