Miners to host Surf Dawgs and Rickey Henderson

MESA, ARIZONA -Valley fans will have a unique opportunity to see future baseball Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson play at HoHoKam Park when the Mesa Miners take on Henderson and the San Diego Surf Dawgs July 8-10.
The California Division leader San Diego Surf Dawgs will make their only East Valley appearance when they come to Mesa starting tomorrow night at 6:35p.m. Signed by the Surf Dawgs on May 9, the 46-year-old Henderson has played in 25 seasons at the major league level with the Oakland A's, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, San Diego Padres, Anaheim Angels, New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. In his major league career, the 10-time all-star has collected a .279 batting average, 3,055 hits, 297 home runs and 1,115 RBI. He also is Major League Baseball's all-time stolen base leader having swiped 1,406 stolen bases in his career.
To add to the excitement on July 8, the first 1,000 fans to enter the gate will receive a voucher for a FREE limited edition Rickey Henderson bobblehead. There is also a special VIP event where fans will have the opportunity to meet Henderson and get an autograph. For more information on the VIP event, fans can visit www.MesaMiners.com. There will also be one dollar hot dogs at the concessions stands available and the first ever "Bark In The Park" where fans can bring their dogs to the ballgame.
"We are excited that the fans have a chance to see Rickey Henderson and his new team, the San Diego Surf Dawgs, for three games here in Mesa," said Miners general manager Becky Thielen. "How often do you get to see a first ballot Hall of Fame baseball player play, enjoy one dollar hot dogs all night, and bring your dog to the park? Fans should definitely make plans to come out to HoHoKam Park to see the two top teams in the Golden Baseball League play.
