GBL notebook

Published on July 7, 2005 under Golden Baseball League (GBL) News Release

The 4th of July weekend brought sellout, standing-room-only crowds to both Chico and Long Beach. Fireworks were provided both on and off the field in Mesa with a historic triple play. Hundreds of donations were collected for "Packages from Home" to be sent to our troops. Surf Dawg fans were treated to ice cream samples and Krazy Karacters. And the Yuma Scorpions provided fun with whoopee cushions.

A big thank you to all of the Golden Baseball League fans who joined us over the holiday weekend. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did and we hope to see you at the ballpark soon.

PLAYERS OF THE MONTH

Based on recommendations from SportsTicker, the GBL has announced the June Players of the Month. Surprise first baseman/outfielder Desi Wilson and Fullerton pitcher Ben Fox received the first ever honors. Wilson's performance included a 27-game hit streak that continued into the month of July. And Fox received recognition after going 5-1 with a 2.87 E.R.A while striking out 38 and walking just 14 in 37 innings pitched.
