Surprise Fightin' Falcons News Release
The Surprise Fightin' Falcons brought out the big bats Wednesday night, but San Diego's were even bigger. The Surf Dawgs won their third game in the series and handed the Falcons their seventh straight loss overall with a 14-9 win at Surprise Stadium.
2B Adam Mandel drove in three runs, and SS Tony Garcia had four hits among the Surf Dawgs' 18 as San Diego improved to 7-2 against Surprise this season.
Surprise LHP Craig Frydendall was roughed up in the start, then left the game after being hit with a batted ball in the third inning. He lasted 2-1/3 innings and gave up five runs. The Falcons' bullpen did not fare much better, giving up nine runs in 6-2/3 innings. Frydendall took the loss to fall to 3-3 on the season.
San Diego pitcher Aaron Wilson improved to 4-2 after leaving the game in the fifth with a 10-run lead. The Falcons made it close against reliever Chris Gale in the seventh inning, scoring five runs in the frame - three on a triple by Billy Brown.
The Falcons pounded out 14 hits in the game, three each by Gavin Monjaras and Desi Wilson. After having his 30-game hitting streak Monday, Wilson sat out Tuesday's game and started another streak Wednesday. His 3-for-4 night improved his league-leading batting average to .455.
San Diego OF Rickey Henderson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. He also walked three times.
The two teams will wrap up their four-game series Thursday. RHP James Beever (2-1, 5.67) will take the mound for the Falcons. Tickets are available by calling (623) 537-5784 or at www.surprisefightinfalcons.com.
