Sussex County Miners News Release
Augusta, NJ - The Sussex County Miners (21-10) have seen a historically torrid offense over the past ten days - that only continued on Tuesday, as the Miners saw another offensive outburst to put away the Salina Stockade (3-7) by a score of 14-1 in front of 1,202 fans at Skylands Stadium.
The game didn't remain scoreless for long, as a Mikey Reynolds walk and a Martin Figueroa single made way for Rubi Silva - who entered the day batting an even .500 - to deposit a Mason Mayberry fastball well over the right center field wall.
Silva wasn't done, however; after Figueroa singled home another run, Silva ripped a double down the right field line with the bases loaded to score another two. A Luis Alen single and a sacrifice fly from Breland Almadova tacked another pair, giving Sussex County an 8-0 lead after three.
In the fourth, Jarred Mederos continued the onslaught by scoring on a wild pitch, which was followed by a Figueroa RBI groundout.
One run in the fifth and the sixth put Sussex County ahead 12-0 after six, making it the third time in ten games that the Miners scored eleven or more runs.
A scoreless seventh made way for a two run eighth inning, courtesy of two passed balls and another RBI groundout from Figueroa.
On the mound, Tyler Alexander (5-0) was in cruise control - fresh off his 132 pitch outing six days ago, he went seven sparkling innings, striking out eight and allowing just one run.
Kenny Koplove and Alex Demchak pitch the eighth and ninth, respectively, each racking a pair of strikeouts to secure the win for Sussex County.
The Miners have hit a white hot streak and look to continue their tear Wednesday night against Salina. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at Skylands Stadium.
