Milwaukee Wave Beats Omaha Vipers and Recaptures First Place

MILWAUKEE (January 14, 2011) - The Milwaukee Wave came out strong against former teammate and now head coach of Omaha Vipers, Marcelo Fontana. The Wave was playing without Troy Dusosky, Evan McNeley, and Hewerton due to league suspensions from the altercations from the Baltimore game last Sunday.

Much of the credit for Milwaukee's success this season is due to the well-balanced attack. Tonight's game saw 7 players' scoring. Milwaukee Wave's Joe Hammes was the first to score. Marco Terminesi followed with a goal scored and assist from Tom Oatley which improved Terminesi's point streak to 18 contests and ending the first quarter with the Wave leading 4-0. Between periods Chris Brunt who was in the penalty box serving a pushing penalty got an additional yellow card which was his third yellow card resulting in an ejection.

Matt Stewart racked up his second goal of the season early in the second quarter. Terminesi added an additional goal bringing the score to 8-0. Omaha got onto the board with a goal by Federico Moojen. On a Wave's restart Josh Rife scored followed shortly thereafter by an Ian Bennett goal. The half ended with the Wave on top 12-2.

Giuliano Oliverio scored first in the third quarter on a Wave power play with an assist from Jonathan Greenfield. The Wave has one of the best special team units in the MISL. Going into the game tonight the Wave lead the league in with 12 power-play goals in 19 man-advantage situations. A Hammes penalty resulted in a penalty shootout and goal by Carlos Farias. Matt Stewart scored his second goal of the night adding a 3 point goal giving the Wave a 17-4 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.

The Wave struck quick in the 4th quarter with a goal by Kyt Selaidopoulos. Terminesi added an additional goal completing his hat trick pushing him to the top of the leader board for scoring in the league. Omaha added a 6th attacker and capitalized when Viper Victor Quiroz punched a goal in. The Wave finishes with a 21-6 win.

The Wave's defensive has now held opponents under double digits in five games. Led by keeper Nick Vorberg the team has allowed the lowest amount of the league going into this game.

The Milwaukee Wave plays next in Baltimore on Friday and then returns home to play on Saturday, January 22 at 6 p.m. The Wave will induct its 2011 Hall of Fame Receipients and honor the 2000-2001 Championship Team. The first 3000 fans in attendance with receive a Champion's Cup.

The Milwaukee Wave professional indoor soccer team is the longest-running professional soccer team in the country.
