Millender's Inside-The-Park Home Run Helps Boulders To 4-2 Victory

New Jersey Jackals News Release

Boulders starter Jon Velasquez allowed just a two-run home run to Francisco Carraballo as the Jackals lost 4-2 to Rockland on a humid, muggy Saturday.

The home run accounted for one-third of the Jackals hits. Three is the fewest they have produced since they were two-hit by Grand Prairie's Josh Strawn in a shutout effort June 23rd.

Jackals starter Dustin Birosak danced out of trouble in the first, but allowed second-inning RBI singles to Chris Valencia and Cole Kraft as the Boulders took an early 2-0 lead.

Craft ended the day with a game-high three hits.

Bryan Sabatella walked to start the fourth - one of five walks issued by Velasquez - to precede Carraballo's game-tying 15th home run of the season.

After a Billy Alvino leadoff double a half-inning later, Qualon Millender's RBI single up the middle handed the lead back to the hometown team. Millender would add an inside-the-park home run later in the day to round out both the 4-2 final and his 2-4 day.

Birosak earns the loss and drops to 3-4 this season. In his sixth start since converting to starter, he allowed three runs off eight hits in five innings.

Velasquez earns the win to improve to 5-5. The only hit allowed through his seven innings was the Carraballo home run.

Adrian Martin threw a scoreless ninth to notch his Can-Am leading 15th save of the season. He struck out two and has now recorded 32 strikeouts to only one walk in 2012.

With the loss the Jackals drop to 47-33, now only four games up on the Rockland Boulders for the final playoff spot in the Can-Am League. Rockland moves to 43-37. Quebec and Newark split their doubleheader today, putting New Jersey four back of Quebec for first place.

These two teams finish off the four-game set tomorrow in Little Falls. Fresh off eight shutout innings against Worcester, Isaac Pavlik (9-2, 3.19 ERA) will oppose Will Hassett (2-1, 6.75 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 2:05. The pregame show begins 10 minutes prior.
