(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats rode a dominating second half performance over the Halifax Hurricanes to win 107-95, and claim 1st place in the Atlantic Division.

The first quarter was like a heavyweight bout with the two teams trading blows and feeling each other out. The quarter ended tied 22-22.

In the second quarter, Saint John's offense sputtered and the Hurricanes took a 46-42 lead at the half.

In the third quarter the floodgates opened for the Mill Rats as they opened a 23-point lead and eventually finishing the quarter on a 36-16 advantage to lead 78-62.

The fourth quarter it was more of the same until the Mill Rats played keep away and Halifax scored several baskets towards the end to narrow final margin.

Doug Herring Jr led Saint John with 26 points, 15 assists, and 9 rebounds. Gabe Freeman scored 19 points, Ricky Volcy and Anthony Anderson 12, and Chris Smith 10. Anthony Stover added 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 blocks.

The Mill Rats and Hurricanes both sport 14-6 records now, but by virtue of Saint John winning 5 of 6 over Halifax, they claim 1st place.

Saint John hosts the Moncton Miracles next Friday March 4th at 7PM at Harbour Station.
