Mill Rats Beat Rainmen in Saint John

The Saint John Mill Rats extend their winning streak tonight to six games in Saint John, as they beat the Halifax Rainmen in front of 1,989 fans with a final score 119-97. The two teams battled evenly through the first quarter with the Rainmen up at the end of the first 30-26. The Mill Rats took over in the second quarter outscoring the Rainmen 37-19, including ten three pointers to finish the half. Mill Rats took the lead at the break 63-49.
The Halifax Rainmen were never able to recover from their poor second quarter performance as the Mill Rats cruised through to another win. The Rainmen made a few runs but the Mill Rats lead was never threatened despite not having their two stars Jerice Crouch and Melvin Counsil. The Rainmen continued to struggle from the field shooting only 37% vs the Millrats 49%. The Mill Rats made an impressive 15 for 31 from beyond the arc (49%) vs the Rainmen's three point shooting 6 for 21 (29%). The Mill Rats bench was also much more productive than the Rainmen's bench scoring 44 points to the Rainmen's 27 points.
The Mill Rats were lead by Anthony Anderson with 28 points and 14 assists, followed by Cavell Johnson with 20 points, Steve Deluca with 15 points, PJ Young 14 points, and Sheray Thomas finishing with 10 points. The Rainmen's top scorers were Joey Haywood and Quinnel Brown with 18 points a piece, Melvin Goins 16 points, Brant Bailey and Tyrone levett each finished with 11 points.
The Rainmen return home to face the Montreal Jazz Sunday December 30th at 2pm.
