
Mill Rats Win Sixth Game in a Row

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats presented by Rogers, won their sixth game in a row on Friday night against the Halifax Rainmen at Harbour Station with a final score of 119-97, in front of 1, 958 fans.
The Rainmen bolted out of the gate early gaining an 11 point lead half way through the first quarter, 10-21, but the Mill Rats were able to battle back to within 4 with the help of local talent Mike Anderson, Steven Deluca and Anthony Anderson. This game also was Anderson's first time starting with the Mill Rats.
The second quarter, the Mill Rats turned up the heat almost outscoring the Rainmen by half, 37-19.
Three minutes into the second, the Mill Rats were able to gain their lead, 39-33, which they held for the remainder of the game, after 3 consecutive three pointers - 2 from Anthony Anderson and 1 from Antonio Burks.
Rainmen's Joey Haywood made some good plays in the second, netting 10 points alone, but it wasn't enough to shift the momentum. The Mill Rats closed the half leading 63-49 over Halifax.
Fans witnessed a great game at Harbour Station tonight as Mill Rats' Modibo Diarra was activated and got some playing time on the court and Grand Bay athlete, Mike Anderson, made his debut on the starting line and played just under 32 minutes with the team.
Both teams battled hard in the third but the Mill Rats were able to hold onto their lead. With 5:15 on the clock in the quarter, Mill Rats' guard Anthony Anderson passed the ball to PJ Young for a tip. The Rainmen inbounded the ball which was stolen by Cavell Johnson who passed it off to Joe Posey to drain a three pointer. The Mill Rats charged ahead, 77-62.
The Mill Rats held their lead going into the last quarter, 87-72. A few threes from the Mill Rats gave them the edge the needed to post their sixth consecutive win, ending the game 119-97 over the Halifax Rainmen.
Leading scorers for the Mill Rats were Anthony Anderson with 28, Cavell Johnson with 20, Steve Deluca with 15, while PJ Young and Joe Posey each contributed 14 points. Anderson and Johnson each posted a double double with 14 assists and 14 boards, respectively.
The Rainmen were led by Joey Haywood and Quinnel Brown each dropping 18, while Melvin Goins added 16. Goins also posted a double double with 10 boards.
The Mill Rats rise to 10-7 on the season while the Rainmen fall to 8-10.

They kick off the New Year in Halifax on Jan. 1st but return home on Thursday, January 3rd and Friday the 4th to host a double header against the Moncton Miracles and the Summerside Storm. Both games are at 7pm at Harbour Station.
