FC Cincinnati News Release
FC Cincinnati center back Miles Robinson and midfielder Luciano Acosta have been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 3, the league announced Monday.
Robinson and Acosta become the first two FC Cincinnati players this season to be named to the MLS weekly team. The duo combined for Cincinnati's game-winning goal Saturday night at Soldier Field in the Orange and Blue's 2-1 win over Chicago Fire FC.
Robinson netted his first-career goal for FC Cincinnati in the 68th minute off a corner kick. With the ball swung in from Acosta, Robinson got his right foot on the ball through heavy traffic to score the match's decisive goal.
Robinson also contributed to a backline which allowed just five total shots Saturday night, only one of which came on target from the penalty spot. FC Cincinnati have not allowed a goal from open play through two MLS matches.
For Acosta, his assist of Robinson's goal marked his first goal contribution following his 2023 season when he led the league with 31 goal contributions. His corner was one of a club-record nine taken in Saturday night's win.
Acosta controlled the midfield Saturday night, leading all players with seven created goal scoring opportunities.
Last season, FC Cincinnati set a club-record with 40 players named to the MLS Team of the Matchday. Robinson and Acosta's performances are the first and second recognitions of an FC Cincinnati player or coach on the weekly team this season. A full list of 2024 FC Cincinnati matchday honors:
