SPOKANE, WA (October 3, 2013) - The Spokane Shock have made their first trade toward the 2014 season, receiving former Pittsburgh Power standout Mike Washington for quarterback Arvell Nelson and offensive lineman Ben Ossai.

Washington will enter is fourth season as a member of the Arena Football League in 2014, having played his first three as a member of the Pittsburgh Power. During his rookie season with the Power in 2011, Washington recorded 114 receptions for 1,367 yards and 30 touchdowns. In his second season, Washington continued his production and improved in each receiving category on his way to 115 receptions for 1,484 yards and 34 scores. Last season, Washington ranked 8th amongst all receivers with 136 receptions, 9th in receiving yards (1,595), and 8th in receiving touchdowns (36).

Washington will join a Shock receiving corps led by returners such as 2013 AFL Wide Receiver of the Year Adron Tennell, Brandon Thompkins, Jeffrey Solomon, and Duane Brooks. The Shock also added Thomas Mayo during the league's off season assignment process and exercised the rookie contract option with Demario Ballard. The departure of Kamar Jorden to the CFL's Calgary Stampeders who finished second on the team in receptions (95), receiving yards (1087), and receiving touchdowns (26) will open up thick competition in training camp.

"I believe this will be the most talented group of receivers the Shock have had to open a season. Mike Washington has produced huge numbers for the Power over the past three seasons and I'm really looking forward to adding him to the mix with his ability to create big plays and put pressure on opposing defenses," said Shock Head Coach Andy Olson.

Washington played his collegiate football at the University of Hawai'i. During his senior season in 2008 he was named all-WAC second team as he started all 14 games and led the team in receptions (62) and receiving touchdowns (6) on his way to finishing the season with 789 yards. Prior to his collegiate career, Washington was a 2005 graduate of the well-known prep-football program of Aliquippa High School in Pennsylvania where he was a standout football and track player.
