West Texas Roughnecks News Release
ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks announced the acquisition of WR Mike Glover on Tuesday, February 10 for the 2009 season. Glover is returning to the Roughnecks for his second season after compiling a productive 2008 season in the former Intense Football League. Glover (5'9", 190 lbs.) earned First Team All-Lone Star Conference North honors in 2006 at wide receiver for East Central University. That same season, the Houston, Texas native led East Central with six total touchdowns; four receiving, one rushing and one on a 90-yard kickoff return. Due to his outstanding special teams work, Glover was also named Second Team All-Lone Star Conference North as a return specialist. Following the 2006 season, Glover was named the program's Offensive Most Valuable Player.
In 2008, Glover played in two games for the Odessa Roughnecks recording three receptions for 60 yards, averaging 20 yards a reception and one touchdown. Glover also recorded one tackle on defense. Head Coach Chris Williams is expecting big things to come from the young wide receiver in 2009.
"Mike is not a big name signing at this point but he is a big time athlete. We put a lot of effort into developing our practice squad last season. Mike was one of those guys there that will be a breakout player in 2009. Mike has all the tools to play this game. As a rookie right out of college it took a while for him to understand the angle and quickness of the indoor game. He has the elite speed that will allow him to be successful indoors. I always get 40 times on him in the 4.39 to 4.41 range. He is ready to play the game at a high level now ." stated Roughnecks Head Coach, Chris Williams.
