Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO - Orlando City Soccer Club is proud to announce the completion of a short term loan of Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Michael Tetteh. The 20 th over pick in 2011 MLS SuperDraft will be with the Lions until July 10th. The Sounders reserve the right to recall Tetteh early if the need arises.
"We're very pleased to have Michael," said Head Coach Adrian Heath. "I know several people in the Sounders organization that speak very highly of him. We're excited to have him."
A native of Ghana, Tetteh came to the United States alone at 16 years old with nothing but a small bag of clothes after receiving a scholarship to Dunn School in Los Olimos, California. He played his college soccer at UC Santa Barbara. In his three years with the Gauchos, Tetteh scored six goals and tallied eight assists in 59 total matches. He chose to forgo his senior season to enter the MLS SuperDraft.
Tetteh's play in college was so strong he was named to the 2011 Generation adidas class. He was selected 20th overall in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft by Seattle Sounders FC. Tetteh's Generation adidas status makes him the third player on the Orlando City roster with Generation adidas ties (Jamie Watson, Rob Valentino are the others).
"It's important for Michael to get games at a good level," said Sounders Head Coach Sigi Schmid. "[That] is the opportunity playing with Orlando City offers. We look forward to him getting this opportunity."
Orlando already holds some special significance for Tetteh. The Sounders spent part of their preseason training camp in the Orlando area, training at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex. Tetteh scored his only goal of the preseason in a friendly with the Houston Dynamo. Tetteh has seen the majority of his action in the MLS Reserve League. In six games, Tetteh has scored two goals. He earned his first start for the Sounders on Tuesday in their 2-1 victory over the Kitsap Pumas in the US Open Cup.
Tetteh will join the team in Pittsburgh on Friday for the match against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Following the July 1st clash in the Steel City, Tetteh and the Lions will venture to Rochester. The Lions and Rhinos face off on July 3rd in the second of their three matches against each other this season.
-- Next home match: July 8th vs. Dayton Dutch Lions
