Eagles Face Tough Two-Game Road Trip

June 30, 2011 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charlotte Eagles News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - After a month-long stint at home in USL PRO play, the Charlotte Eagles are back on the road. Their first road test is Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Harrisburg City Islanders, always tough at Sklyline Sports Complex.

With a 5-2-1 record at home, Harrisburg will make for a great proving ground to see if the Eagles can continue their strong form away from Charlotte.

The Eagles have successfully been able to establish a strong standard at home, in order to make a run for the playoffs they will have to prove that they can keep that standard on the road. The Eagles are currently enjoying a league-best seven-game unbeaten streak.

The Eagles' bench stepped up this past Friday night in a 2-0 victory against Pittsburgh proving that not only have the Eagles starting 11 fallen in sync, but the bench can be just as dangerous.

Saturday night will be the first 2011 meeting between Charlotte and Harrisburg. Last season the Eagles edged the City Islanders, winning the season series 2-1-1. This game has the potential to send Harrisburg to the front of USL PRO's National Division, tying Rochester with 27 points.

With Sunday to recuperate the Eagles will travel over to F.C. New York, for their second matchup of the season. The teams met in Charlotte on April 23with the game ending in a scoreless draw.

Looking ahead, the Eagles will enjoy a full weekend of their longtime rivals, the Richmond Kickers. The Eagles will travel to play in Richmond at 8 p.m. on July 8, and both teams will travel to Charlotte for the rematch on July 9, also at 8 p.m.
