PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, are pleased to announce that defenseman Mick Bruce has signed a commitment to play NCAA Division 3 hockey for the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards.
A native of Lafayette, Colorado, Bruce will move on to the Boston, Massachusetts campus this fall after completing his junior hockey career with the Fighting Falcons.
Bruce joined the Fighting Falcons in late January, following a trade with the Topeka Roadrunners. In 18 games with the Fighting Falcons, Bruce notched eight points on four goals and four assists, earned a +/- rating of +6 and had 34 penalty minutes.
In 106 NAHL games over the past two seasons, Bruce had 21 points seven goals and 14 assists, earned a +28 +/- rating and spent 158 minutes in the penalty box.
"We are thrilled that Mick was able to earn a commitment from such a great school," said Fighting Falcons Head Coach and General Manager Michael Gershon. "Wentworth is a great program, and they are getting a great kid on and off the ice."
Bruce appeared in the playoffs in each of his two NAHL seasons, giving him valuable experience as he joins the Leopards, who won the Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast Hockey Division championship this season.
Of the seven players who ended their junior hockey careers with the Fighting Falcons with the 2012-13 season, Bruce is the fifth to sign a commitment to continue his hockey career at the collegiate level.
The Fighting Falcons return to McMorran Arena for their fourth NAHL season this fall. Season ticket packages start at just $175, and the first 25 fans to purchase two or more full season ticket packages will receive a free game-worn Fighting Falcons jersey.
