Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
Miami, August 7, 2008 - Miami FC (5-8-8) will collide with the Atlanta Silverbacks (8-5-6) on Friday August 8th at 7:55 pm (ET), at Silverbacks Park in Atlanta. The Blues are 2-0-0 against Atlanta this season, having won by a score of 3-0 at Tropical Park Stadium during the teams' first match of the season, on July 27th, and having posted a 1-0 victory when the teams met on June 24th during the 2nd round of the 2008 Lamar Hunt Open Cup. Atlanta has put together three straight wins including a close one last Tuesday night against the Whitecaps 3-2.
The Blues have found their scoring touch in recent games. Hit men Alex Afonso and Sean Fraser have formed an excellent partnership up front which is evident in the goals they have scored and the opportunities created. Afonso is currently tied for the top spot in goals and second in points in the USL-1 with 10 goals and 23 points. Fraser has benefited from the production of Afonso by creating opportunities for himself and others. In the previous encounter between these two teams the trio of Afonso, Fraser, and Inácio ran roughshod over the Silverbacks and each recorded a goal.
The Silverbacks are showing how a string of victories can shoot a team up the standings. After Tuesday night's victory over the Whitecaps, Atlanta claimed 4th place in the league on 30 points. Macoumba Kandji has been the spearhead in the attack and was named USL-1 player of the week for his stellar performances. He has scored 4 goals in the last three games which have all been wins for the Silverbacks. On Friday however, he will face the tough Miami back line lead by a combination of Chris Williams, Avery John, Cristiano Dias, and Eric Brunner.
After Miami plays Atlanta, the Blues will be in Carolina to take on the RailHawks on August 15th at 8 pm (ET - live on Fox Soccer Channel). Miami's next home match at Tropical Park is on August 24th against the Charleston Battery. Group tickets are currently on sale by visiting our ticket page by calling 305-728-2612.
