St. Lucie Mets News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets recorded their second consecutive shutout as they blanked the Tampa Tarpons 2-0 at Steinbrenner Field on Monday.

Starter Luc Rennie, promoted to St. Lucie on Saturday, pitched five innings in his season debut. He gave up three hits, walked one and struck out four while throwing 74 pitches.

Carlos Hernandez faced the minimum over two scoreless innings in relief. Ryley Gilliam retired all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth innings to close out the game.

Gilliam struck out three batters. Eight of the 12 outs he has recorded in his two relief outings have been strikeouts.

The Mets pitching staff ran its scoreless innings streak to 19.

The Mets scored the only run they needed in the first inning. Blake Tiberi, who went 3 for 4, started the game with a double. Later in the frame with two outs and runners at the corners, Jeremy Vasquez got into a rundown between first and second. He stayed alive long enough to allow Tiberi to race home from third.

Todd Frazier (oblique), playing in his fourth rehab game, gave the Mets a 2-0 lead in the third inning when he singled home a run with the bases loaded.

Mets catcher Nick Meyer caught two Tarpons stealing.

Quinn Brodey notched his second multi-hit game, going 2 for 4.

The Tarpons only had one batter reach second base.

The Mets (2-3) and Tarpons (2-3) meet again at Steinbrenner Field on Tuesday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
