Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Mets used a four-run bottom of the eighth inning to come from behind and beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 5-3, on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. Rubén Tejada and René Rivera combined for five hits and four RBIs in the game. With the victory, the Mets won three of four games against the RailRiders in this series.
Syracuse (45-48) trailed, 3-1, entering the bottom of the eighth inning. Rajai Davis led off the inning with a ground ball to first, and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre shortstop Tyler Wade fielded the ball but made an errant throw to first that allowed Davis to reach base. Arismendy Alcantara followed with a double that put runners at second and third base. Tejada then singled into center field, scoring both Davis and Alcantara to tie the game, 3-3. Rivera followed with a two-run home run down the right-field line that gave the Mets a 5-3 lead.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (53-40) got on the board in the top of the first inning. With one out, Thairo Estrada doubled. Wade followed with a double that scored Estrada for a 1-0 RailRiders lead.
The Mets tied the game in the fifth. Travis Taijeron led off with a double. Colton Plaia followed with a single, placing runners at second and third base. Two batters later, Davis grounded out to third base, but Taijeron scored from third on the play, knotting the game up, 1-1.
The RailRiders regained the lead in the sixth. With two outs, Erik Kratz walked. Zack Zehner followed with a two-run home run that gave Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 3-1 advantage before Syracuse made its comeback.
Syracuse begins a seven-day road trip on Monday with the first game of a four-game series against the Indianapolis Indians. First pitch on Monday night is set for 7:05 p.m.
