
Merrell Nets Two in 5-0 Win over Maryland

LAUREL, MD - The Johnstown Tomahawks shut out the Maryland Black Bears 5-0 Friday night at Laurel Gardens Ice House.
Oliver Benwell put the Tomahawks up 1-0 with his 15th of the season. Sam Solensky and Roman Kraemer picked up the assists.
The Tomahawks added to their lead with a power play goal from Carson Brière, his 24th of the season. Hunter Toale and Solensky registered the helpers.
In the second period, the Tomahawks added to their lead after Chad Merrell netted his seventh of the season. Ethan Webb assisted on the goal.
Then at the 16:00 mark, Solensky added his 21st of the season to put the Tomahawks ahead 4-0 late in the second period.
Late in the third period, Merrell scored his second of the game and eighth of the season to set the Tomahawks final at 5-0.
Both teams return to action Saturday, Jan. 12 for a 7:45 p.m. faceoff in Rockville, Md.
