Memphis remains on top in final poll of 2005

CHICAGO - For the second consecutive week, the Memphis Xplorers captured the No.1 ranking in the Coaches Poll, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today. Collecting 223 of a possible 228 points in the securing of the top position. This is the final poll of the 2005 season.
The Xplorers total included fourteen first-place votes, up two from the Week 17 poll. Just behind Memphis in the No.2 ranking, the defending ArenaCup Champion Florida Firecats received 207 points and five first place tallies. The Tulsa Talons climb to the No.3 spot with 177 points. The only other team receiving a first-place vote was the Manchester Wolves (1).
The arenafootball2 Week 18 schedule features three matchups of Top 12 teams. On Saturday night at 7:30, the No.12 Macon Knights look to tune up for the playoffs in Pennsylvania against the No.11 ranked Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers. Also on Saturday night at 7:30, two of arenafootball2's hottest teams face-off as the No.5 Louisville Fire play host to the No.7 ranked Quad City Steamwheelers. The No.3 ranked Tulsa Talons head to the Ford Center to challenge the No.6 Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. All Times Eastern.
Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 12 teams in the league by ranking them one through 12 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 12 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 12th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 12 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Wednesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.
