Memphis 901 FC News Release

MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Memphis 901 FC announced the signing of goalkeeper John Berner pending league and federation approval on Friday.

Selected by the Colorado Rapids as the 35th pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, Berner made five appearances for Colorado before joining affiliate-club Charlotte Independence on loan. With Charlotte, he made 38 appearances for the USL Championship club and kept 12 clean sheets over the 2015-2016 seasons.

"The club is thrilled to be adding a player of John's experience and quality to the roster," Sporting Director Tim Howard said. "He's a proven shot-stopper with both MLS and USL experience, and we are looking forward to having him with us this season."

Berner brings seven years of professional experience to Memphis. Following his time at Charlotte, Berner spent seasons with Phoenix Rising, Oklahoma City Energy FC and most recently Saint Louis FC last season.

Prior to his professional career, Berner played at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he made 34 appearances over four seasons, had 10 clean sheets and kept a save percentage of 75 percent. He was named back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the year in 2012 and 2013.

Berner joins returners Zach Carrol, Dan Metzger and Mark Segbers as Memphis continues to build its roster for 2021 season.

Additional news and information about the 2021 roster, schedule, tickets and more will be available in the coming weeks and months.
