Memphis 901 Defeats Loudoun United FC 3-0, Landing Top Spot in Eastern Conference Standings

LEESBURG, Virginia - Memphis 901 FC lands the number one spot in the USL Championship Eastern Conference standings after defeating Loudoun United FC 3-0 in a match riddled with weather delays.

Memphis started moving the ball quickly, after an hour and a half weather delay, as Phillip Goodrum got the ball at his feet in the box and got a shot off in the first 30 seconds of the match. 901 FC looking to strike first as they are 6-0-1 when scoring first.

Goodrum and Laurent Kissiedou connected in the fifth minute to put Memphis up 1-0. Goodrum received the ball in pace as he ran up the right side, sending a pass into the six-yard box, where Kissiedou was waiting and took the one-touch right footed shot that hit the back of the net.

Loudoun responded quickly, taking a shot of their own in the sixth minute as John Berner got his hands on the ball to end the attack.

Goodrum looked to capitalize on a fast break, Patrick Seagrist sent a ball over the top of the Loudoun defense with Goodrum gaining possession and taking an open shot narrowly saved by Joseph Rice in the 17 minute.

Jeremy Kelly scored the second goal in the 29 minute. Kelly sent the ball into Leston Paul at the top of the box before Paul put a quick pass just beyond the Loudoun defense as Kelly's touch put the ball in the back of the net.

Despite Loudoun holding possession for the majority of the first half, Memphis however capitalized in front of the net with 5-9 shots being on target as opposed to Loudoun 3-9 on target.

Loudoun came out strong in the second half after the three-hour weather delay, possessing the ball and creating opportunities in their attacking third.

Goodrum added a goal to go along with his assist in the 55 minute. Kelly ran the ball down the left side of the field to right outside the box, sent the cross over the Loudoun defense as Goodrum took a diving header that landed in the bottom left side of the goal.

901 FC held strong through the second half creating opportunities and holding firm in the back, leading to their fourth straight win.

Memphis 901 FC comes back home to AutoZone Park on Saturday, June 4 vs. Atlanta United 2. Kickoff is at 7:30PM CT.
