July 27, 2016 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Newport Gulls News Release

NEWPORT, R.I. - After a 10-6 victory over the Danbury Westerners Monday night at Cardines, the Gulls extended their winning streak to three games with a 12-4 win at Plymouth last night.

Newport's offense rocked the Pilgrims at Forges Field to the tune of a season-high six home runs off the bats of Cole Fabio, Charlie Carpenter, Stephen Scott, Jake Brodt, Trey Harris and Connor Kaiser. Fabio, Brodt, and Scott collected three hits apiece in the contest, while Hunter Schryver picked up the win, tossing six innings of one-run ball, striking out six Pilgrims.

Heading into tonight's contest at 6:35 at Cardines Field vs. the Pilgrims, Newport's Troy Dixon - who had a home run of his own against Danbury at Cardines on Monday - is now leading the NECBL in batting average at .376. Scott, meanwhile, is second in home runs (9) and third in the league in RBI (29). Brodt is third in the league in runs scored with 28 on the summer.

Tonight is Military Appreciation Night at Cardines, presented by Raytheon. All military personnel will be admitted free, and the first 250 fans into the ballpark will receive free water bottles courtesy of Raytheon.

The Gulls continue to lead the NECBL in attendance, with 40,070 fans coming through the gates at Cardines through the team's first 19 games, averaging 2,109 per night to date. Gates open tonight at 5 p.m.; first pitch is set for 6:35.

Off on Thursday, the home-standing Gulls will host the Mystic Schooners for Volunteer Appreciation Night at 6:35 on Friday at Cardines, before heading to New Bedford for a 6:30 contest on Saturday. Off on Sunday, the Gulls finish the regular season - and their entire 44-game schedule - at home vs. the Keene Swamp Bats on Monday, August 1 at 6:35 p.m.

While seeding has not yet been determined for the 2016 playoffs, the NECBL Quarterfinal Series - which is played in best-of-three format with the higher-seeded team hosting Game One and, if necessary, Game Three - is set to begin on Wednesday, August 3. The Southern Division Championship Series is scheduled for Aug. 6-8, followed by the NECBL Championship Series from Aug. 9-11; both series are likewise best-of-three formats. The Gulls, at 23-17, are 15-6 in the month of July, and enter tonight's contest in second place in the NECBL South, trailing the Mystic Schooners by 1 1/2 games.
