Media blitz follows ABA's Gallup announcements
May 16, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Gallup Outlaws News Release
Gallup, NM. Before the ink was dry on their contracts, newly signed Gallup Talons Head Coach Clayton Shields and inaugural player, shooting guard Matt Vail, were swarmed with media engagements.
Following their signing ceremony in the Navajo Code Talker Room in the McKinley County Chamber of Commerce, Shields and Vail were interviewed by local radio personality Sam Chioda. The next stop for the Talon duo was to appear on Chioda's weekly cable television show, "Sports Talk," which was then proceeded by an appearance on the Gallup Herald Mid-Week Report, also on the same cable network. When word was leaked of Shields' initial appointment, the statewide media picked up on the story resulting in immediate radio and television interviews and announcements across New Mexico in such media as the Albuquerque Journal and NBC affiliate KOB-TV.
"I am very excited about the reception the Gallup Talons have received statewide in our early stages," said Joe Kolb, owner.
"With the quality of talent we're looking at, I'm confident our small town will continue to garner the recognition of the local, state and even national media," said Kolb.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
