
McLinskey Tosses SwampBats to 3-2 Win

GROTON, C.T.- RHP Jake McLinskey (Kennesaw State) allowed just one unearned run over six innings of work and the Keene SwampBats (18-13) won for the seventh time in eight games with a 3-2 victory over the Mystic Schooners (17-14) on Friday night at Fitch High School.
McLinskey (2-2) allowed the unearned run on five hits while walking one and fanning six in six innings of work. RHPs Jeff Praml (Southern New Hampshire-2.0 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 3 K) and RHP Justin Willis (Vanderbilt-1.0 IP, 2 K) combined to close things out for the SwampBats and Willis notched his first save of the year.
A throwing error by Mystic right fielder Chris Sullivan (Hartford) allowed Nick Romano (St. John's River) to score from third base to open the scoring in the top of the second inning and give Keene the early 1-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Jacob Koos (Stetson) led off with a single, went to second on a walk, stole third and scored on Romano's RBI single to give the SwampBats a 2-0 advantage.
Mystic starter Chris Troye (UC Santa Barbara) surrendered two runs (one earned) on five hits o go along with two walks and eight strikeouts in 5.0 IP. Troye was dealt the loss and falls to 1-1 on the summer. Romano struck again with a solo shot in the sixth to stretch the lead to 3-0.
Mystic got two runs back with RBI singles in the sixth and the seventh to cut the lead to 3-2. Chris Winkel (UConn) and Steve Barmakian (George Washington) delivered the RBI singles for the hosts.
Koos (3-4, SB, R) and Romano (3-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) both had multi-hit games for manager Lyndon Coleman's squad.
The SwampBats return to action on the road tomorrow against the Winnipesaukee Muskrats (8-22). First pitch from Robbie Mills Park is set for 6:05 p.m. and LHP Ian Exposito (1-1, 5.94) out of St. Thomas University gets the start for the SwampBats.
