McDaniel, Fauci Honored with Week 3 Awards

June 27, 2022 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) News Release

SOUTH HALEY, Mass. -- Sanford infielder Quinn McDaniel (Maine) and right-hander Sonny Fauci (St. Johns) have been named the New England Collegiate Baseball League's (NECBL) Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, for the third week of action in the 2022 regular season.

McDaniel was on fire this week for the Mainers. In five games and twenty-three at bats, the infielder batted a high .522 with two walks and nine RBIs. His nine runs batted in and seven runs scored ranked second in the league over the last seven days. His twelve hits were also tied for the most in the NECBL during the third week.

McDaniel had a hit in every game this week including two four-hit efforts against Upper Valley on June 21 and Winnipesaukee on June 25. His home run this week, a grand slam against the Nighthawks, proved to be the difference maker in a 6-4 Sanford win. The Maine native also had a run scored in every game this week and stole five bases, the second most by any player during the third week of action. For the season, McDaniel is batting .349 with twelve RBIs, fourteen runs and twelve walks.

The infielder joined the Mainers after his sophomore season with the University of Maine. McDaniel batted .330 with thirty walks, ten homers, fourty-six RBIs and fifty-four runs scored in 197 at bats with the Bears.

Fauci, another member of the Mainers, was dominant in his one start this week. Against North Shore on June 23, the righty went seven innings, giving up no runs while striking out fourteen batters and only allowing three hits. His fourteen punchouts were the most in a start in the NECBL during the third week. The New Jersey native also only walked one batter against the Navigators, allowing four baserunners all game. His strong outing carried the Mainers to a 3-1 victory. For the year, Fauci has an impressive 0.56 ERA with twenty-one strikeouts and only eight hits allowed in sixteen innings.

In his redshirt sophomore season with St Johns, the righty had a 10.26 ERA and struck out sixteen batters in almost seventeen innings of work.
