Fauci, McDaniel Pick up NECBL Weekly Honors

SANFORD, Me. - The Mainers took a clean sweep of the NECBL weekly awards with Sonny Fauci (St. John's) named NECBL Pitcher of the Week, and Quinn McDaniel (Maine) as NECBL Player of the Week.

The pair has been influential in Sanford's early-season turnaround. After starting 1-9, the Mainers head into the final week in June with an 8-10 mark.

Fauci made one start this week against North Shore and put together a dominating performance in the 3-1 win.

The Old Bridge, New Jersey native struck out 14 Navigator hitters, including five that went down looking. The right-hander would retire the last 11 batters he faced before leaving after the seventh, he allowed only three hits and one walk.

Fauci's 0.56 ERA is good for fifth-best in the NECBL, through 16 innings pitched he has 21 strikeouts to only five walks, with a 1-1 record.

As for McDaniel, he has continued to build off his hot start to the season. In the five games he played this week he went 12-23 with one home run and nine RBI.

The second baseman had a couple of huge plays including his grand slam against Newport that proved to be the difference in the Mainers win, 6-4. The Black Bear also showed great patience as his walk with the bases loaded tied the game in the thrilling comeback win against Winnipesaukee on Saturday, 10-9.

The former Marshwood High School standout sits sixth in the NECBL with a .349 batting average and is tied for a team-high in home runs, two, and RBIs, 12.
