
McCunney Hits for Cycle in 19-0 Win

Leominster, Mass. - Rob McCunney (Fordham) became the first player in Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) history to hit for the cycle as the Brockton Rox cruised past the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, 19-0, on Wednesday night at Doyle Field.
Brockton rattled off a season-high 23 hits in the win, including 12 for extra bases. The 19 runs were also a season-high for the Rox, who upped their record to 6-8 on the year.
McCunney put together one of the finest performances in FCBL history, going 5-for-5 at the dish with a single, two doubles, a triple, and his second homer of the season. The Cohasset native also tallied three RBIs and a game-high five runs scored in the rout.
Luis Gonzalez (Concordia) went 3-for-5 with two homers, six RBIs, and two runs scored, while Vito Perna (Southeastern Louisiana) finished 2-for-4 with a homer, three RBI, and a pair of runs scored. East Bridgewater's Greg Baggett (Bentley) was outstanding as well for Brockton, as he went 2-for-6 with a homer, an RBI, and four runs scored.
Norton native Sean Ryan (Wheaton) went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, while Tanner Reibenspies (San Diego State) finished 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. A.J. Lardo (Maryland) and Scituate native Jordan Berry (George Washington) each finished with a pair of hits for the Rox, while Berry added a pair of RBIs and a run scored.
Chris Kalica (Fairfield) stymied Wachusett (4-13), improving his record to 2-0 on the year. The right-hander hurled seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits and one walk, while striking out six along the way.
Westwood's John Sheehan (William & Mary) and Norton's A.J. Bashaw (New Jersey Institute of Technology) combined to allow just two hits in two scoreless innings of relief.
Jeff Andersen (Adelphi) was charged with the loss (0-4).
Brockton returns home to face the Seacoast Mavericks at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday night, while Wachusett hits the road to take on the North Shore Navigators at 7:00 p.m.
