January 24, 2024 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Monterey Bay FC News Release
SEASIDE, California - Monterey Bay Football Club (Monterey Bay F.C.) completed its third annual open tryout with a final scrimmage on Tuesday night at Cardinale Stadium. After two initial days of tryouts on Saturday and Sunday on the training fields, the top players from the weekend were invited back for one opportunity to impress the MBFC coaching staff on the Cardinale Stadium pitch Tuesday night.
70 open tryout participants from around the tri-county area and the rest of the country were evaluated by Union coaches over the weekend. Of that list, nearly 50% were either currently living in and/or originally from Monterey County itself. Of the 27 that advanced to Tuesday's final scrimmage, over half were local athletes.
In addition, the Club invited partners and 2024 season ticket holders out to the stadium to watch the tryout scrimmage on Tuesday. Proud Partner of the Union, Ivan's Baked Potatoes was also on site to provide food and beverages to everyone in attendance. For those who were not able to make it to the stadium, the Club streamed the final scrimmage live on the @montereybayfc Instagram account to all of its subscribers.
Now, as Monterey Bay F.C. officially opens preseason training camp on Thursday, January 25, Sporting Director and Head Coach Frank Yallop and his staff will make their final decisions on which of the open tryout participants, if any, will join the first team in training next week.
