Rochester Knighthawks News Release

As the Rochester Knighthawks prepare for the NLL Champion's Cup Finals this Saturday, May 19 against the Edmonton Rush, Mayor Thomas S. Richards and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada's Mayor Stephen Mandel have announced a friendly wager between the two cities.

The Knighthawks will host the Rush at this weekend's 7:30 p.m. game at The Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial and the stakes have been set high as both Mayors have agreed that the losing team's Mayor must wear the jersey of the winning team to the next City Council meeting.

The Mayors will also exchange baskets with items representative and unique to each city. Some of the items in the Rochester basket, assembled by Visit Rochester, include a City of Rochester Pen and Pencil set, Lilac Hill wine, Zweigles white hots, Genesee Beer, Stever's Candies, Sticky Lips BBQ Sauce, Boulder Coffee, a model Wegman's truck, and Abbott's frozen custard.

Some of Edmonton's items include Cheemo Perogies, Mundare Sausage, an Edmonton Picture Book, a City of Edmonton, City Hall Glass Sculpture, Alley Cat Beer, a CD of Colleen Brown (local folk singer) and a City of Edmonton Rosewood Pen and Pencil Set.

Having been consistently ranked as one of the best cities in America for Minor League Sports, Mayor Richards is comfortable with his wager. "We are proud of our Kighthawks team for reaching the Championship game," said Mayor Richards."We are also proud of the great assets our community has to offer and are happy to share a sample of them with the City of Edmonton. I wish both teams the best of luck in the game and I am confident that the Rochester jersey will be worn proudly in Edmonton."

Rochester is in the NLL Finals for the first time since the 2007 season. That year the Knighthawks won their second league championship. This is the first post-season matchup between Rochester and Edmonton. The Rush has a 2-1 record against the Knighthawks.Rochester ended the season by winning two of its last three games, improving to 7-9 and clinching second place in the East Division.
