Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

Dubuque, IA - Dubuque Fighting Saints defenseman Max Burkholder has been named the USHL's Defenseman of the Week for week 22 of the 2022-23 season. Burkholder's offense helped the Saints bounce back from a three game losing streak with a sweep over the Madison Capitols.

Burkholder recorded a goal and an assist in each game over the weekend while also compiling eight shots on goal and a +1 rating.

The strong weekend helped Burkholder snap a three game point drought and six game goal drought. He is now tied for the league lead in goals by a defenseman with 14, matching Eric Pohlkamp of Cedar Rapids' total on the year. He also ranks third in the USHL in total points by a defenseman with 37, trailing Pohlkamp and Lincoln's Boston Buckberger who each have 38.

The Defenseman of the Week honor is the second time the veteran defenseman has taken home the award this season. He was also named Defenseman of the Week for week 10 of the season back in late November after becoming the first saint to record a hat trick since December 6, 2019.

So far this season, Burkholder has set new career highs in every offensive category. Through 43 games, he has recorded 14 goals, 23 assists for 37 points along with 95 shots on goal, a pair of game winners, and three power play goals. He ranks second on the Saints in goals, assists, and points trailing only Ryan. St. Louis.
