Mavs Halt 'Hawks

Rockford, IL- The Mid -Missouri Mavericks defeated the Rockford RiverHawks 2-1 at Marinelli Field. The RiverHawks had a chance to either tie or win the game in the ninth but the opportunity was lost on a blown call by the base umpire. Tony Pigott, who appeared safe, was thrown out at third after the second baseman dropped the ball on a potential double play opportunity. Josh Tomsu (4-3) picked up the loss for Rockford. Tomsu allowed two runs, scattering six hits, and striking out four in 8.1 innings of work. Lenny Bays (6-5) got the win for Mid-Missouri and Dan Moellering picked up the save. Rich Austin and Tony Pigott each went 2-for-4 for Rockford.

Tomorrow night is two for Tuesday thanks to Pepsi. Hot dogs and Pepsi's are 2 for $2. Scott Sobkowiak (6-6) will take the mound for Rockford against Justin Stine of Mid-Missouri. Rockford will then embark on a six-game road trip before returning home. The 'Hawks will return home on August 7 for 98 cent beer sponsored by Miller Lite and Q98.5.
