Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (March 24th) - Jamie Doornbosch recorded his 10th of the year and Ryan Tesink added two assists, but Wichita fell to Missouri on Friday night by the final of 4-2 at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Wichita appeared to score with six minutes to go in the first period. Matt DeBlouw made a great move through the slot and fired a backhand past Josh Robinson. The goal light never went on and the referee deemed that the puck never crossed the line.
Maxime St-Cyr made sure he found the net just two minutes later as he banged home a rebound at the right post and gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Late in the frame, Andrew Courtney tipped home a shot from the blue line and tied the game at one.
After a scoreless second, Missouri took the lead for good at 7:01 of the third when Conner Bleackley re-directed a pass from Justin Breton to make it 2-1. Rocco Carzo increased the lead to 3-1 at 9:27 as he charged the net and beat Drew Owsley with a power play goal.
Jamie Doornbosch cut the lead back to one during a delayed penalty at 10:48. He caught up to a loose puck in the slot, skated to his left and beat Robinson with a wrist shot from the left circle.
The Mavericks extended the lead back to two as Matt Finn scored a highlight reel goal four minutes later. He skated through the middle of the ice, stepped through a few defenders near the Wichita line, put his stick through his legs and scored to make it 4-2. The Thunder pressed over the final few minutes, but couldn't beat Robinson and Missouri took the win.
Wichita is 5-3-3-0 in the Visit Wichita, Visit Independence Cup Series with the loss. Doornbosch has 28 points (10g, 18a) in 34 games. Tesink recorded his third multi-point outing of the season.
The Thunder have outshot their opponents in five of the last six games. Owsley suffers the loss, stopping 29 of 33 shots. Robinson grabs the win, stopping 41 of 43 shots he faced.
Wichita went 0-for-4 on the power play. Missouri was 2-for-5 on the man advantage.
The Thunder heads on the road for two-straight starting tomorrow night at Missouri.
