Mavericks End Win Streak at Seven: Fall 4-3 to Beast
March 16, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks dropped their final regular season matchup of the season against the Brampton Beast 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. The Mavericks captured 2 wins over the Beast earlier in the weekend series, but missed the opportunity to sweep the 3-game face-off, ending their win streak at seven games.
The Mavericks shot themselves onto the scoreboard with a freaky fast goal via Mavs' forward and leading goal-scorer Eric Castonguay only 15 seconds into the game. Sebastien Thinel and Jeff Buvinow recorded assists on the opening mark for Missouri to lead 1-0. Then Brampton found their way to the back of the net with a lamp-lighter from Jason Pitton at 8:32 of the first frame. Missouri kept the pressure on and the quick stick of Evan Vossen pushed the Mavericks ahead 2-1 minutes after Brampton's tying goal to redirect a shot behind Beast net-minder Grant Rollheiser.
Mike Ramsay stayed on the puck through a flurry of opportunities for the Mavs in the second period, following through to boost Missouri up to a 3-1 lead. Brampton wasn't ready to skate away from this game however, and responded with a goal from Steve Ward past goaltender Shane Owen to cut the Mavs lead 3-2.
Brampton came into the third period charged and ready to play, with Scott Howes scoring twice, first to tie the game at 3-3 and then take the lead 4-3 over Missouri. While the Mavericks upped their game to try and force overtime, they could not connect with the back of the net and took a 4-3 regulation defeat to the Brampton Beast at the Powerade Center.
The Mavericks return home on Friday, March 21st to the Independence Events Center to face-off against the Quad City Mallards at 7:05pm. Tickets are available in person at the Box Office, and online at TicketMaster.com.
