Montgomery Bears News Release

The Montgomery Maulers announce the signing of their first player... and it's a familiar name. Quarterback Jeff Aaron, who earned MVP honors while leading Montgomery's Jeff Davis High School to the 6A state title in 1996, joins the Maulers after playing the past two years with the arenafootball2 Birmingham Steeldogs.

"We're thrilled to have a quarterback of Jeff's caliber leading our team," said Maulers head coach Jeff Shiver. "I know this is a dream for him to play professional football in front of his friends and family."

Aaron played in 21 games over the past two seasons in Birmingham, passing for 3,226 yards and 58 touchdowns. Last year, the Steeldogs put together a 7-game win streak early in the season and finished with a 10-6 record. Aaron's best game was against Arkansas on April 17 when he threw for a season-high 341 yards and six touchdowns in a 56-40 win. Despite throwing for 144 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in a first round playoff game at Cape Fear, Birmingham's season ended with a 54-53 loss.

Aaron played two years at quarterback for UAB (2000-01), earning team MVP honors after passing for 1,135 yards his junior season. He threw for 828 yards and rushed for 203 yards in the first seven games of his senior season before an ankle injury ended his college career.

An expansion franchise in the National Indoor Football League (NIFL), the Montgomery Maulers offer seven nights of hard-hitting, high-scoring, "edge of your seat" excitement at historic Garrett Coliseum. The Maulers play their first-ever game on March 19 at Kissimmee, FL. The first home game is Saturday, April 2 against the SW Louisiana Swashbucklers. Season tickets start at $49 and are available by calling (334) 277-1881, visiting the Maulers' office at Eastdale Mall, or logging on to montgomerymaulers.com.
