Maulers Looking to Axe Miami
June 30, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Montgomery Bears News Release
Montgomery, AL - On Saturday, July 9 the Montgomery Maulers will host the Miami Morays in the first round of the National Indoor League playoffs.
Miami, suffering from a detrimental loss last week to the Fayetteville Guard 62-2, will have to offensively dominate the Maulers in order to continue with playoff action. Unfortunately for Miami, which holds a 3-5 record on the road, the Maulers are defensively prepared to extend their home record to 7-1.
The Maulers will once again rely on Quarterback J.R. Richardson who has proven to be the backbone of the Mauler's offense the last few games. Richardson will need to remain confident in his throwing game if the running game fails because that has proven trustworthy.
Although Miami has suffered offensively, their defense will keep them in the game. The Maulers' offensive line will have to be on its toes because Miami's Jimmy Williams and Arpedge Rolle have combine totals of 22.5 tackles for loss for 106 yards and 18 sacks for 87 yards.
The Maulers defense has performed well even though the defensive line has been plagued with injuries the past few games. Jonathan Harrell and Jamal Fletcher have stepped to the rescue of key defensive player Andre Reed as Reed was injured against Beaumont on June 17.
Reed is expected to be cleared for the July 9 game, but Harrell, Fletcher and the rest of the Maulers' defense will have to continue playing hardball in order to defeat Miami.
This should be an exciting match up between two outstanding teams. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m. on July 9, at Garrett Coliseum. Tickets are on sale now for $10 and to celebrate the recent Division Championship win by the Maulers beer sales will be $1 through the third quarter.
