Montgomery Bears News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Montgomery Maulers Machion and Marilyn Sanders are a husband and wife duo who enjoy being a part of the team's inaugural season.

Machion came to the Maulers first try-out, gave his resume to head coach James Shiver and then was invited to be on the team. After making the team Machion encouraged Marilyn to try-out for the dance team.

"I get to touch a lot of people, provide great entertainment and I am blessed to be able to be a part of the team and do this," Machion said. "This has been a memorable experience, I have been able to reunite with guys I played with at ASU, relive my college days and form a closer bond with the guys on the team that I couldn't do before."

Machion is a senior IT manager at Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South. He troubleshoots and installs new hardware, software and monitors the network overall.

Marilyn teaches math at Central High School in Loundes County and is currently working on her Masters in administration. One day she would like to be a school principal.

"Dancing is just for fun, I'm not interested in pursuing it at a higher level. It's a good way to keep in shape," Marilyn said. "Meeting fans is one of the best things about being on the dance team. The fans are more excited than I expected and it is a lot of fun."

Marilyn also says that she would like to be a member of the "Red Hots" again next season.

The two met while both were in school at Alabama State University. Machion was on the Alabama State football team and Marilyn was a member of the dance team.

Marilyn is originally from Detriot, Mich., but moved to Montgomery in 1999 to attend Alabama State, while Machion was born in Montgomery but raised in Philadelphia. Machion moved back to the Montgomery area in 1992 and graduated from Jeff Davis High School.

To see Machion and Marilyn, come out to the Maulers last regular season game on Saturday, June 25 at 7:30 pm CT at Garrett Coliseum. Tickets may be purchased at the Maulers office in Eastdale Mall, the Garrett Coliseum box office, and Ticketmaster's website at www.ticketmaster.com.
