Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN.--- Having recently completed a highly-successful and prosperous week through a 4(3-1-0) mark and a climb into a share of third place in the CHL Turner Conference Standings, the Evansville IceMen are reaping some significant benefits from their outstanding performance on the ice.
On this date, the Central Hockey League in concert with the IceMen have announced that goaltender MATT LUNDIN has been named the OAKLEY / CHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK for the week of November 1st through November 7th.
Lundin, 24, (lunn-DEAN) was prominent and paramount in the IceMen's first-ever three game winning streak which they attained the past week. The former MVP of Mercyhurst College backstopped his Evansville team to three consecutive victories in three consecu-tive starts, grudgingly surrendering a minuscule 5-GA for a GAA of 1.67 and SPCT of a glowing .955.
In his 11/9 triumph in Mississippi, 5-2, the Apple Valley, MN native earned the game's #2 Star with a masterful 38-saves performance. Returning home to launch his team's extended 5-game home stand at Swonder Ice Arena, the 2009-10 IHL Muskegon Lumberjacks Rookie of the Year Award winner was, again, named the #2 Star in making 39-saves in the IceMen's 8-1 demolition of Arizona. He culminated his magnificent body of work for the week with a 35-saves masterpiece in spearheading his team's key, clutch 3-2 victory verdict over the IHL's three-time reigning Turner Cup Champions, Fort Wayne Komets.
For the season, Lundin has elevated his record to 8(5-2-1) overall while remaining undefeated on home ice at 5(4-0-1). His GAA thus far is 2.63 and SPCT .919.
Lundin and the tied for third place IceMen 12(6-5-1) 13-points are set to complete their 5-game home stand this weekend with a pair of appearances at Swonder Ice Arena.
For being named Oakley/ CHL Goaltender of the Week, Lundin will receive a pair of sunglasses from Oakley. Matt Lundin becomes the first-ever IceMen player to capture weekly league-wide honors.
This Friday night, November 19th, the IceMen will engage in encore combat against the second place Dayton Gems on "Turkey Bowling Night." Evansville will be seeking its elusive initial triumph over the Gems who have bested the IceMen twice in as many collisions thus far this season, including last Saturday night's 2-1 decision, despite the fact that thie IceMen outshot the victors in the third period, 15-3.
Saturday night, November 20th, the IceMen will lock horns with Berry Conference rivals, the Mississippi RiverKings. Evansville will look to stay perfect against both the RiverKings and the Berry Conference overall. The IceMen are 2(2-0-0) against Mississippi with both triumphs extracted from South Haven, MS by replica results of 5-2 while the IceMen are 3(3-0-0) against the Berry Conference delegation, outscoring them collectively, 18-5.
