Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
ODESSA, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (6-4-2) battled all night against the Odessa Jackalopes (3-9-1) but were unable to find the equalizer as the Jackalopes were able to hold a lead for the second and third periods winning by a final score of 6-3. Sean Muncy, Aaron Lee, and Darcy Campbell all scored for the Bees and Juliano Pagliero made 40 saves in the losing effort.
The Killer Bees struck first as Sean Muncy pushed a loose puck to the back of the net. It had seemed that Jackalopes goalie Joel Martin and covered the puck but Muncy saw the opening he needed to poke the puck to the back of the net. Rob Cowan and Jake Obermeyer both collected assists.
The Bees would hold onto the lead for more than ten minutes before the Jacks would tie the game late in the first period. While on the man advantage Sebastien Thinel scored his seventh goal of the season. Thinel was attempting a centering feed from the goal line however it clipped goalie Juliano Pagliero's pads and bounced to the back of the net.
Less than a minute later the Jackalopes would take a 2-1 lead when Kenny Corupe snuck a tough angle shot in between the shoulder of Pagliero and the nearside post. The Jacks would take a two-goal lead early in the second while once again on the power-play.
The Killer Bees would get one back in the second period with a power-play strike of their own. Aaron Lee one-timed a deflected pass from Sean Muncy past Martin to bring the game within a goal. Darcy Campbell also earned seventh assist of the season.
Entering the third period the Bees were trailing by a goal. Much like the second period the Jackalopes would make it a two goal lead before the Killer Bees would cut the lead to a single goal. Darcy Campbell went driving towards the net from his defensive position and deflected a great Aaron Lee pass to the back of the net.
The Killer Bees would remain down by one for the next three minutes until at the 8:33 mark of the third period the Jackalopes would open their two goal lead once again. The Killer Bees would, in desperation, pull Juliano Pagliero would it would not be enough as the Jacks added an empty net goal to the score.
The Killer Bees return home this weekend to host Bossier-Shreveport and Texas at the State Farm Arena. The puck drops at 7:35 both nights and tickets are available on killerbeehockey.com or by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825).
