Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY (July 16, 2008) - Salt Lake Bees infielder Matt Brown was named the Pacific Coast League's Top Star of tonight's Triple-A All-Star game at Louisville Slugger Field in Louisville, Ky. Brown's single in the top of the ninth inning brought in the tying run and preceded a string of four runs by the PCL offense. The six-run ninth was just enough to win the game against the International League All-Stars 6-5, and break a two-game losing streak by the PCL.
Brown started the game at third base, and finished by going 2-for-3 at the plate with a single, a double, a RBI, and a walk.
A scoreless game through the first six innings, the IL struck first with two runs only to see the PCL follow up with a whopping six runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead. The IL sluggers battled back in the bottom of the 9th, but came up short.
Brown, a native of Bellevue, Wash., has appeared in 83 games for the Bees this season, batting .326 and leading the team in home runs (20), doubles (28) and runs scored (69). The infielder made his major league debut on May 10, 2007, and appeared in four games with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim last season. Brown has appeared in five games with the Angels in 2008, registering one double and two RBI. He was originally selected by the Angels in the 10th round of the 2001 draft.
The 6-5 win puts the PCL's overall win-loss record to 6-5 in All-Star games.
