Match Preview: San Diego Mojo vs. Columbus Fury: May 7, 2024

The San Diego Mojo will host the Columbus Fury on Tuesday, May 7 inside Viejas Arena at 7 p.m. PT with a spot in the Pro Volleyball Federation playoffs on the line. A win for the Mojo will lock up the fourth and final playoff spot for San Diego. The Mojo are 2-0 against the Fury this season, winning in four sets at home on April 7, then collecting a five-set win in Columbus on April 12.

San Diego Mojo Outlook

San Diego will look to earn the final Pro Volleyball Federation on Tuesday when they host the Columbus Fury. The Mojo have won seven of their last 10 matches, including two victories over the Fury. Last time out, the Mojo fell in straight sets in Grand Rapids. Willow Johnson led the San Diego scoring effort with seven kills, while Morgan Lewis, Temi Thomas-Ailara and Lindsey Vander Weide had six each. Ronika Stone had a team-high three blocks, August Raskie had a team-high 21 assists and Shara Venegas had 13 digs.

Thomas-Ailara is averaging 3.65 kills per set, the sixth-best mark in the league, while Stone tops the league with a .336 hitting percentage and leads the Mojo with 13 service aces. Ali Bastianelli is fifth in the PVF with 49 blocks, just ahead of Stone's 48. Nootsara Tomkom is third in the league in assists per set (10.38) and total assists (810) and Shara Venegas is ranks third in the league in digs per set at 3.71, while her 315 total digs are the fourth most.

Columbus Fury Outlook

Columbus has lost their last two matches and six-straight on the road. Last time out, the fell in four sets at home to the Omaha Supernovas. Reagan Cooper leads the Fury with 297 kills, the fifth-most in the league, while her 4.13 kills per set are the third-best mark in the PVF. The Fury have two primary setters with Tori Stringer leading the squad with 543 assists (9.20 per set) followed by Raymariely Santos with 487 (7.85 per set). Kaitlyn Hord tops the team with 38 blocks and Rainelle Jones has tallied 32, while Valeria Leon leads the team with 241 digs, just ahead of the 225 from Megan Courtney Lush.

The Mojo hit the road for the final two matches of the regular season, playing on Orlando against the Valkyries on Thursday, May 9 before wrapping up the schedule in Columbus on Saturday, May 11. First serve for both matches are set for 4 p.m. PT.
