Match Preview: San Antonio Scorpions at Atlanta Silverbacks
September 27, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
San Antonio Scorpions News Release
The Scorpions fell 0-2 in last week's showdown with Minnesota United and are eager to get back on the pitch and return to their winning ways. They get their first opportunity to do so Saturday when they make their second trip of the year to Atlanta to take on the Silverbacks. San Antonio is 1-1-3 all-time in Atlanta, but that first win came in the second match of the Spring Season when the Scorpions brought home a 2-1 victory. San Antonio also won their match at Toyota Field last August, so they will be looking to sweep the season series.
The Alamo City eleven are on the verge of setting a mark for success on the road as they are only one point shy of their all-time best for road points accumulated over a full NASL campaign (20 in 2012). A fast start could be key as the Scorpions are undefeated when they score the opening goal, but have yet to win when they concede first in a match. Atlanta may be a good place for the squad to find their goal-scoring touch as the Silverbacks have only kept one clean sheet on their home field in 2014.
Atlanta made it to the Soccer Bowl last year after winning the Spring Season, but they are on the outside looking in at this year's postseason as they are ninth in the Combined Standings and nine points behind fourth place Carolina.
