Match Preview: Sacramento Republic FC vs Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC

Sacramento Republic FC (10-8-3, 33 pts) will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. to take on Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (12-7-2, 38 pts) on Friday, August 14. Kickoff is 6:00 p.m. PDT at Sand Creek Stadium.

This will be the second consecutive matchup between Republic FC and Switchbacks FC. The first matchup was Saturday, August 8 at Bonney Field with Switchbacks FC defeating Republic FC 1-0.

Republic FC enter the match earning 14 points in ten road matches this season, third most road points in the Western Conference. Republic FC led the USL last season with a 7-5-2 road record and earned 23 road points. Republic FC's road record this season is 4-4-2, with four road matches remaining.

Part of Republic FC's road success this year comes from their defense, allowing just 14 goals in 10 road matches, second fewest in the Western Conference. Since the first three road matches of the season, Republic FC has allowed just six road goals and recorded two shutouts.

Goalkeeper Patrick McLain has also been a large part of Republic FC's success on the road. McLain has a .714 save percentage on the road this season, higher than his season average of .702. He has also recorded 59 percent of his saves on the road this season. In the last seven road matches, McLain has been strong in goal allowing just six goals, recording two shutouts and amassing a .829 save percentage.

While Republic FC might be one of the best road teams in the conference, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC come into the match as one of the best home teams in the conference. Switchbacks FC have recorded 25 points in eleven home matches this season, an 8-2-1 record.

Switchbacks FC have allowed just eight goals against in their eleven home matches, an average of .73 goals against per home match. Switchbacks FC have also kicked up their scoring at home with 29 of their 40 goals coming at home this season. Their home goal differential is 21.

Midfielder Rony Argueta scored the only goal for Switchbacks FC against Republic FC on August 8. Argueta scored on an 18-yard strike from the left side of the pitch early in the 3rd minute, the fastest goal scored in Bonney Field history. Argueta has recorded two goals this season.
