Match Preview: Sacramento Republic FC V Oklahoma City Energy FC

Sacramento Republic FC hosts Oklahoma City Energy FC on Saturday, August 9. Kickoff is 8:00 p.m. at Bonney Field. The match is a sellout and is the first ever Back to School Night presented by Arden Fair Mall.

The match is the third meeting between the two sides this season and the first in Sacramento. Energy FC won the first two matches in Oklahoma City both by a score of 2-0. Both sides will put their unbeaten streak on the line. Republic FC will look to extend its four-match unbeaten streak overall and eight-match home unbeaten streak while Energy FC would like to continue their three match unbeaten streak.

Republic FC enters the match after defeating Arizona United SC 2-1, with goals from Justin Braun and San Jose Earthquakes loan player JJ Koval. The victory was Republic FC's sixth road win of the season, most in USL PRO.

With his goal against Arizona United SC Justin Braun ties fellow forward Adam Jahn for the third most goals in USL PRO play for Republic FC behind Rodrigo Lopez and Thomas Stewart who are tied for first, with seven goals each.

Goalkeeper Jake Gleeson earned his eighth win of the year against Arizona United SC, fourth most in USL PRO. Gleeson has allowed just one goal in his last four appearances including the first shutout of Orlando City SC this season.

Energy FC comes into the match after playing seven of their last nine matches at home. Energy FC went 5-1-3 on that stretch after starting the season just 3-7-2. Energy FC is currently sitting in seventh place in the USL PRO standings just two points behind fifth place, Rochester, with a game in hand.

Energy FC is led on offense by forward Kyle Grieg and midfielders Adda Djeziri and Michael Thomas. Grieg and Thomas are the club leaders in goals with seven for Grieg and five for Thomas, each has also recorded two assists. Djeziri has been the distributor for Energy FC recording a club leading five assists on the season while scoring two goals.

The match will be Back to School Night presented by Arden Fair Mall. Republic FC will be collecting school supplies and backpacks to support Operation Backpack, an initiative set up by Volunteers of America. Operation Backpack collects new backpacks and school supplies for homeless and at-risk youth in the Sacramento Region. All donations made at the match will go to kindergarten to high school aged children in the greater Sacramento area.
