Match Preview: Sacramento Republic FC V Atlas FC

Sacramento Republic FC hosts Atlas FC of Liga MX, the Mexican Premiere League, in a friendly match on Sunday, July 6 at Bonney Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. PST.

The match will be the first of four international friendlies for Republic FC in the month on July. Republic FC will welcome Rangers FC of the Scottish Championship League (July 19) and West Bromwich Albion of the English Premier League (July 21 and 15).

Republic FC enters the match undefeated in their last five USL PRO home matches and last seven home matches overall. Midfielder Rodrigo Lopez has been in great form lately recorded an assist in four of his last six matches and comes into the match tied for second in the USL PRO for assists with five. Lopez also scored twice during that same six-match span.

Lopez, along with defender Jose "Crisitan" Gonzalez, have ties to Atlas FC. As a child Lopez grew up watching Atlas FC play in his hometown of Guadalajara. Gonzalez was a member of the Atlas FC Youth Academy before moving to the United States to play for the Houston Dynamo Academy.

This match will be the second friendly match of the season for Atlas FC who is currently gearing up for their 2014-2015 season in Liga MX. In preparation for the season Atlas FC signed defender Edgar Castillo, one of only two players to have played for both the United States and Mexican national squads.

Atlas FC is best known for its youth academy, which has produced some of the best players in Mexico. Current Mexican National Team goalkeeper José Corona and defender Rafael Márquez were both members of the Atlas FC Youth Academy.

Republic FC's match versus Orange County Blues FC on July 4 was postponed due to poor air quality after a fire nearby. Republic FC will play a rescheduled match on Monday, July 7 at Bonney Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with gates opening at 6:00 p.m.
